Facebook Experimenting with Mobile Recommendations

According to Inside Facebook, Facebook is rolling out a recommendation tab for some pages on its mobile touch site, taking a big leap into the location-based search and reviews game.

Brittany Darwell of Inside Facebook says:

In May, users gained the option to read and write recommendations for locations and any page with an address listed on Facebook. Bringing the feature to mobile devices has been an obvious next step so users can learn what their friends and others think of places nearby.

The Facebook social recommendation feature is only available via the mobile, browser based version of Facebook and not through any iOS or Android native Apps.

To use Facebook social recommendations, users can search for a page by name or browse nearby, and at the top of the page there is an option for recommendation in the more option, drop-down menu. After selecting, Facebook users can write a recommendation and view recommendations from friends or the general public, with recommendations getting special treatment in a users Facebook stream, not get buried like other wall posts and activity streams.

Facebooks move into the social recommendations sets the stage for a very competitive local, social and mobile space in 2012.
